Lasting Legacy

A lasting legacy

You can Leave a Legacy

Have you thought about leaving a lasting legacy, but wondered how or to whom?  Let us help you realize a planned gift that will benefit local seniors for generations to come.  Learn how to name Serving Our Seniors (SOS) as a beneficiary of your will, why retirement plans result in the most tax-efficient bequest to charity and about the various ways your legacy can make a lasting difference.

To get started, please contact your attorney or financial planner.  To make your legacy gift to SOS, you can print and complete our Planned Giving Donor Form, linked below.

As with any decision involving your assets, we urge you to first seek the advice of professional counsel when considering a gift to SOS.

Examples of Bequests and Estate Gifts:

  • Include SOS (a non-profit) in your will or living trust. From your existing will or trust, you can ask your attorney to draft a codicil or amendment.  Generally, these type of bequests or estate gifts can be made as a percentage of your estate, or as a specific dollar amount, or as a gift from the balance or residue of your estate, or as a contingent plan in case a primary bequest cannot be met.
  • Provide SOS with a gift directly from a bank account as part of your estate. You can contact your broker or bank representative about making funds “payable upon death.” This will require a “transfer on death” designation on the account so the gift will go straight to the non-profit organization.
  • Name SOS as a beneficiary of a retirement account. Designate a percentage of the retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or pension). Note, beneficiaries of a retirement account are taxed on the amount they receive, the non-profit receives the full amount of the gift designated.
  • Name SOS as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

Download and print the packet below, we have also provided some basic bequest language to assist you and your attorney on the last page of the document.
